The plan is transferred to the operating room using guides

Resection guides for the jaw and the donor bone define the osteotomy lines and fragment positions according to the digital plan.

Digital planning

Virtual planning driven by the desired outcome

CT segmentation, virtual osteotomy and fragment positioning — agreed with the surgeon before manufacturing.

  • Anatomically accurate 3D model from CT
  • Calculating resection lines and fragment positions
  • Agreeing the design and fixation points before printing

When it is used

Indications for reconstruction

After trauma

Reconstruction of post-traumatic mandibular defects.

After oncological resection

Reconstruction after tumour removal, including microvascular reconstruction.

Inflammation / infection

Restoring form and function after destructive processes.

Severe atrophy

Restoring contour and support in marked atrophy.

  • Set of fixation screws
Benefits

For the surgeon and the patient

  • The minimum necessary access — protecting the soft tissues
  • Passive fit, screw positions in dense bone
  • Reduced operating time
  • Faster rehabilitation and a more predictable outcome

FAQ

FAQ

Depending on the project, the kit may include a patient-specific titanium reconstruction plate, resection (cutting) guides for the mandible and the donor bone, trial-fit anatomical models of the jaw and fragments in the planned position, and a set of fixation screws.

With microvascular autografts — fibular, scapular and iliac. Resection guides are made both for the jaw and for the donor site to position the fragments precisely.

Guides define the exact osteotomy line and fragment positions according to the digital plan — this shortens operating time, reduces intraoperative adjustment and makes the plate fit more predictable.

MSCT per protocol with full coverage of the mandible; if an autograft is planned, an additional CT of the donor site (fibula, etc.), with axial slice resolution of 0.5–1.25 mm. Details are in the CT protocols section.

What you should know

Limits of what is possible

Bonabyte designs and manufactures the device according to the treating physician's plan. Medical decisions are made by the surgeon.

What we can do
  • plan the osteotomy lines from the CT
  • design a reconstruction plate for the specific defect
  • prepare guides for the jaw and the fibula
  • manufacture an anatomical model for trial fitting
  • agree the design with the surgeon before manufacturing
What we cannot determine without the physician and the source data
  • the medical indications for surgery
  • surgical access
  • soft tissue condition
  • the prognosis of the clinical outcome
  • resection volume
  • donor site selection
  • condition of the vascular pedicle

What else you may need

A complex mandibular defect?

Send us a CT (including the donor site if a flap is planned) — an engineer will prepare the plan, the plate and the resection guides.
